First Grade News
Week of February 21-25
Religion: A Woman Prays for Her Daughter (Matthew 15: 21-28)
Ten Men with Leprosy (Luke 17: 11-19)
Memory: Jesu, Jesu, Fill Us with Your Love
(The J is pronounced as an H. It should be read Hezu, with a long u.)
Monday: Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love
Tuesday: Show us how to serve the neighbors We have from You.
Wednesday: Kneels at the feet of His friends,
Silently washes their feet
Thursday: Master who acts as a slave to them
Reading: We will continue Unit 7 I Think I Can. This week we will work on /aw/ spelled au_, aw, augh, ough, al, and all. The students will read The Little Engine That Could and “Riddles.” Vocabulary words used in our selections are dining car, fine, yards, and riddles. There will be questions about the story on the test as well as the vocabulary words. Students will also be working on pronouns this week.
It may be difficult for some students to read the entire reading story from the reading book. Your child does not have to read the entire story to you. You can take turns reading it together.
Monday: Decodable 92
Tuesday: Reread The Little Engine That Could at home.
Wednesday: Decodable 93
Thursday: Decodable 94 and reread The Little Engine That Could.
Friday: Test
Spelling: There will be a spelling test Friday.

Math: We will begin Topic 10 Counting and Number Patterns to 100. Students will be skip counting and looking at patterns on a hundred chart. If a Rocket Math paper does not come home, we didn’t get to it that day.
Monday: Lesson 10-1 and Rocket Math
Tuesday: Lesson 10-2 and Rocket Math
Wednesday: Lesson 10-3 and Rocket Math
Thursday: Lesson 10-4 and Rocket Math
Friday: Lesson 10-5 in class
Social Studies: We will be talking about Presidents. Students will also work on a map to go with a story they wrote.
Special Announcements
*First Grade will present Chapel on Monday, February 28th, at 8:30. It will last about 30 minutes. We would love to see you there!

*Report cards will be sent home Friday, February 25th. Please return one signed copy by the following Friday.
