First Grade News
Week of February 14-18th
 
Religion: A Woman Anoints Jesus (Luke 7: 36-50)
               Zacchaeus Has a Friend (Luke 19: 1-10)
 
Memory: Please continue to have your child practice their Chapel part at home. We will also be practicing in class.  
Jesus in the Morning
Monday: Jesus, Jesus, Jesus in the morning, Jesus at the noontime
Tuesday: Jesus, Jesus, Jesus when the sun goes down
Thursday: Love Him, Love Him, Love Him in the morning, Love Him at the noontime
Friday: Love Him when the sun goes down
 
Reading: We will begin Unit 7 I Think I Can this week. You may notice that the worksheets and test look a little different. This unit introduces many changes as the material starts to look more like second grade work. Students also will be reading from a hard backed reader this unit. 
          This week students will read Franklin Rides a Bike and The Kite. The test on Friday will include questions about the story The Kite. Vocabulary words used in this story are meadow and kite. Students will be asked questions about these words on the test.
          Students will be working on the following sound spellings: /ow/ spelled ow and ou_ and /n/ spelled kn. 
          Students will also be learning about quotation marks.
          Monday: Decodable 88
          Tuesday: Decodable 89
          Wednesday: Read The Kite in reader
          Thursday: Decodable 90 in class, Decodable 91 sent home Read The Kite in reader.
          Friday: Test
 
Spelling: The test will be on Friday.

Social Studies: We will be talking about Presidents this week.
 
Science: We will finish our science fair project.
 
Math: We will continue Topic 15 Time. Students will tell time to the half hour, estimate how long activities take, use a calendar, and discuss schedules. At home, please help your child write out their daily schedule for a school day. Include what time they get up, get on the bus, arrive at school, arrive home from school, do homework, eat supper, go to bed, and any other activities he/she would like to mention. Students need to turn in the schedules on Thursday or before.
          Monday: Lesson 15-3 and Rocket Math
          Tuesday: Lesson 15-4 and Rocket Math
          Wednesday: Lesson 15-5 and Rocket Math
          Thursday: Schedule Due, Lesson 15-6 and Rocket Math
          Friday: Test

*The science fair will be held on Thursday, February 24th at 7 p.m. in the gym.
