First Grade News
Week of January 10th-14th
Religion: Students will begin Unit 5 Listen.
Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2: 41-52)
Jesus is Baptized (Matthew 3:13-17)
Memory: We will being working on the Apostles’ Creed.
Monday: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
Tuesday: And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Wednesday: suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
Thursday: He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead.
Reading: We will finish our unit about weather. Students will again be bringing home their First Reader. We will read three stories this week: Deserts, Snow Is Good!, and Hurricanes. Vocabulary words for this week are storing, shivered, tornado, and shatter. High frequency words found in the decodables are day, way, sleep, don’t, my, too, came, me, and right.
Monday: Decodable 75
Tuesday: Read at least on of the reading stories mentioned above.
Wednesday: Deocdables 76 and 77
Thursday: Decodable 78
Spelling: We will be working on making words plural that end with a y. (change the y to i and add es)

Math: We will have a test over Topic 17 Subtraction on Monday. Students will begin Topic 8 Geometry. This week, students will learn about plane shapes (circle, rectangle, triangle, etc.) and their properties.

Tuesday: Rocket Math
Wednesday: Lesson 8-1 and Rocket Math
Thursday: Lesson 8-2 and Rocket Math
Science: We will continue talking about our science fair project in class and begin collecting data. Ask your child to tell you about it! We will also finish Chapter 7 about weather. We will take a test together on Thursday. A little reader that contains the information for the chapter will be sent home on Wednesday.

*We will go outside for recess, weather permitting. Please make sure your child has a winter coat and a hat or hood.
