First Grade News
Week of September 27th
Religion: Joshua the Leader (Deuteronomy 31) and Entering the Promised Land (Joshua 1)
Memory: The Ten Commandments (as stated in the maroon edition of the Catechism)
Monday: The First Commandment: You shall have no other gods.
Tuesday: The Second Commandment: You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
Wednesday: The Third Commandment: Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
Thursday: The Fourth Commandment: Honor your father and your mother.
Reading: We are continuing Unit 2 about animal habitats. This week students will be reading about desert and ocean habitats. We will also be working on the sounds /g/, /j/, /u/, and /z/. Students will be learning about possessive nouns. High frequency words use in the decodables this week are big, got, to, ask, and of.
Monday: Decodable 26
Tuesday: Decodable 27
Wednesday: Decodable 28
Thursday: Decodables 29 and 30
Friday: Decodable 31 and Test
Spelling: There will be a test on Friday.

Math: Students will continue working on subtraction this week and will begin writing subtraction sentences. In addition to the regular math paper, students will also be bringing home their rocket math facts to practice. They may have a different paper every day or the same one, depending on how they did in class. If the paper does not have a sticker on it, please return it in their folder the next day. We will do the back side of it the following day.
There will be a test on Monday, October 4th. There will be a test over Topics 1-4 on Tuesday. This test just lets me know what the students are retaining.
