First Grade News
March 15-19th
Religion: Jesus Blesses the Children (Mark 10:13-16) and Palm Sunday (Matthew 21:1-11)
Memory: The following verses correspond to the lessons in religion.
Monday: Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly. Colossians 3:16
Tuesday: [Jesus said,] “Let the little children come to me.” Mark 10:14

Psalm 92:1
Reading: This week we are starting Unit 8 Away We Grow. Our introductory story is Cactus Hotel. (This is not in the reading book and will not be on the test.) Students will read How a Seed Grows in their reading books. Vocabulary words used in this story are aside and root. We will be reviewing the sound spellings for long a and short a this week. Students will also learn about beginning sentences in different ways.
Monday: Leveled Reader
Tuesday: Reread How a Seed Grows pages 138-153
Wednesday: Reread How a Seed Grows pages 154-165
Thursday: Reread How a Seed Grows
Friday: Test
Spelling: There will be a pretest on Monday and a test on Friday. Please do not study the spelling words before the pretest. It is meant to determine what your child already knows.
Spelling Words: snake, aim, tape, pale, wait, trail, rain, wave, trailer, snakeskin
Math: Students will learn about gallons, quarts, and liters, cones and spheres, and dollars this week.
Monday: Lesson 109 Homework
Tuesday: Lesson 110 Homework and Test
Wednesday: Lesson 111 Homework
Thursday: Lesson 112
Friday: Lesson 113 in class
Science: We will finish reading about food chains in the marsh and rain forest. This is a short chapter. We will have a test after we return from Spring Break. (Thursday or Friday)
Social Studies: We will be looking at “Home Tools” and schools long ago. This would be a great section to look at if you still need some ideas for the past/present picture. It can be found on page 166 in the social studies book.
